CREATIVE ARTS COLLECTIVE
SANKOFA SERVICES, LLC is a parent entity, a Humanities & Healing Arts (HHA) collective that aims to foster opportunities for creative and artistic development as well as intuitive wellness engagement practices. We provide high quality assistance in concept to construction project management and targeted artist mentorship. As well, we offer a range of services geared specifically to wellness and spiritual arts as modalities for individual self-care. SANKOFA SERVICES, LLC, upholds the well-known West African, Akan principle, “Sankofa,”which means to “Go back and fetch it.” The core principle upon which this entity was founded teaches that the artist lives within us, the art is created with each experience, and our job in the present moment is to mine the moments for their past contribution to our current artistic truth.
POETIC PRECISION WORKSHOPS, LLC, a subsidiary aof SANKOFA SERVICES, provides coaching and mentoring for developing artists and writers. In particular, we provided one-one-one and group guidance for emerging poets in need of process development, poetic device enhancement, concept to construction guidance, and performance critique. Our workshops are conducted over the course of four 2-hour weekend sessions in which students are challenged an assisted in connecting with their best inner writer in order to advance to another level critically, creatively, and introspectively.
SANKOFA SCRIBES POETRY COLLECTIVE, LLC, is a subsidiary aof SANKOFA SERVICES, providing annual healing arts retreats geared towards enhancing individual and collective relationships to poetry through a variety of spiritual and holistic interventions. Our retreats engage mind, body, and spirit with the goal of not just producing poetry, but building better poets from the inside out. SSPC curates the collective to select poets whose work demonstrates a current degree of internal engagement that, in theory, primes the poet for the experience. Application deadlines forthcoming.
AL-TARIQ ROBERSON is a credentialed writing instructor at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and East Carolina University. Additionally, he is an accommplished CAVE CANEM fellow. His teaching career spans eleven years and collectively includes teaching composition and literary studies courses at three additional universities and institutes of higher learning over the last eleven years. Roberson is a research writer as well as a creative writer, currently compiling a book of poetry entitled Outside of Honor and a research publication focusing on fictional representations of black queer men in Twentieth Century African American literature.
